Aside from just being there and soaking in all the joy that a horror convention has to offer, we will be manning
our very own Paracinema Magazine table. So come on down and join us for what is sure to be a fun filled weekend.
I mean come on, Robert Englund will be there! If that’s not a good time, I don’t know what is.

August 12th

We got to see the New York premiere of The King of Kong: A Fistfull of Quarters at
The Museum of the Moving Image. This entertaining documentary tells the story of a legendary video game champion (Billy Mitchell) and science teacher (Steve Wiebe) vying for the highest all time score in Donkey Kong. My one sentence overview of this film doesn't quite capture it's greatness. It's a funny and in-depth look at what some folks will do to stay on top. The director Seth Gordon & producer Ed Cunningham attended the screening, along with the relatable crowd favorite, Steve Wiebe.

After the film there was a short Q&A and Donkey Kong demonstration. I don't think anyone in the theatre had a bad word to say about the film we had seen, Steve Wiebe and the film makers nearly got a well deserved standing ovation. You don't have to be a gamer to enjoy this film, it's quality doesn't come from the subject matter...but rather from the great story and characters. SEE THIS FILM!

The King of Kong: A Fistfull of Quarters opens in select cities on August 17th...and read more about it in Paracinema's first issue due out in October.

Also don't miss history being made when Steve Wiebe goes for the all time high score record in Donkey Kong on Tuesday August 14th at Dave & Buster's
in Times Square, New York City!

July 22nd

We attended the Considering Horror panel discussion at The Museum of the Moving Image in NY on June 17th.
Great discussion about horror films from the 70's and today. Listen to it by clicking the link below.

Considering Horror Panel
"This discussion brought together critics and scholars to talk about the films shown in the Museum’s groundbreaking series It’s Only a Movie: Horror Films from the 1970s and Today. The series was organized by assistant curator Livia Bloom, who moderated this lively discussion with: Adam Lowenstein, author of Shocking Representation: Historical Trauma, National Cinema, and the Modern Horror Film and cinema studies professor at the University of Pittsburgh; Nathan Lee, film critic for The Village Voice; Maitland McDonagh, author of Filmmaking on the Fringe: The Good, the Bad, and the Deviant Directors and film critic for TV Guide; and Joshua Rothkopf, film critic for Time Out New York."
