After all the hoopla surrounding the theatrical release of Adam Green’s Hatchet II, the slighted slasher will finally be on DVD and Blu Ray where it belongs. If you missed it in theaters (and you probably did) you’ll have your chance to pick up Hatchet II On February 1st. I myself am not a fan of the Hatchet movies, I got burned when I blind bought the first one due to all the positive things I’d heard from the internet. But once I got around to watching it, I was pretty unimpressed. That was the first Adam Green movie I had seen and it sort of skewed my expectations of his future work. I am pleased to report that since then I’ve seen Spiral and Frozen, both of which I enjoyed far better than Hatchet. I wish Green would get away from that over the top horror and get into something more cerebral and in turn maybe get a bigger budget. I’d love to see him direct something with a bigger budget that didn’t cater to the lowest common denominator. On a completely contradictory note to that last sentence, here’s Danielle Harris taking a shower!

Remember kids, get Hatchet II (seemingly with more Tony Todd, which is nice) on February 1st 2011! Did I mention it’s unrated? Check out the official site HERE. Old school American horror and whatnot.

  • Like yourself Dylan, I’d heard nothing but good things about Hatchet. I however, have still not got around to checking it out yet. My only experience of Adam Green thus far is Frozen, which I found to be a taut, gripping little thriller. I still have high hopes for Hatchet – which I really should get around to watching, what with me being a slasher fan and all. An unrated cut of the the sequel is something I’d most certainly get onboard with. I’ll heed your advice though and proceed with caution, and maybe lower my exectations a little, too. Wish me luck!

  • I love Spiral! & Frozen! & Tony Todd!

Sowwy Hatchet 🙁 I will watch II though. Who knows, I may love that too.

  • James, don’t proceed with caution. I’m not really a fan of slashers in general so Hatchet sort of had a strike against it to begin with. Even though I wasn’t wild about it, I’m glad I saw it. Go forth without lowered expectations and enjoy!

  • I didn’t like Hatchet either. All I remember is the horrible lighting (like someone shining a spotlight onto a group of people in a dark forest…probably because they were shining a spotlight onto a group of people in a dark forest. Ugh…).

Nevertheless, I will consume the crumbs I’m offered by mainstream film and watch Hatchet II. 🙁

  • GGG! You nailed it. And I too will end up seeing Hatchet II at some point, just not buying it.
